Lake Wateree, S.C. - October 6, 2007
For years everyone knows
the rod limit for the Southern Crappie Association is only 16 poles per boat
and it has been asked several times to reduce the rod limit. Now it is being
proven that even though the rod limit is 16, one does not have to use that
many. For a fact the two most dominant teams we have use a total of one rod
a piece and many other top teams on the circuit use a limited amount of
rods. Now we must rethink our tactics when fishing tournaments, even though
we can use 16 we don't have to. Maybe fewer rods in the right spot is a lot
better than a bunch of rods in the wrong spot. With no fresh water and no
cool weather it has been a chore to find moving fish thus far this fall.
What has been successful this year has been cover, cover, and more cover.
Some deep water and some
not so deep is what has paid off for Todd and Leonard Frick from Leesville
S.C. For the second week in a row on Lake Wateree the duo were fishing lay
downs and brush to capture first place honors. Todd and Leonard were single
pole jigging to haul in 13.07 lbs. of the “tight-lips” to bring home close
to $1700.00 bucks for their efforts. Included in this also was the big fish
money worth $390.00. That brings the total to Todd and Leonard 2- the rest
of us 0.
Making another strong
finish for second was the Kershaw, S.C. father and son team of Sam and Marty
Kennington. Marty and Sam were tight lining brush in the main river to bring
a basket of craps that weighed 13.01 lbs plus third big fish to put over
$600.00 in their pockets.
Always making a strong
finish on Lake Wateree was the third place Father and Son team of Brian and
Brett Davis from Leesville, S.C. Brian and Brett were tight lining in the
river as well as in the creeks over brush to net 12.98 lbs. to bring home
close to $300.00.
In all we had 60 teams fish for
over $4000.00 in cash and prizes. Also I must add that I have a bunch of
used 14-ft poles for sale or will trade for a real nice jigging pole.
