High Rock, NC. -October
14, 2006
What a wonderful day for fishing
the rock on Saturday, October 16. Except for the fog after the night time
low of 32°
which brought fog in the river and the 5 to 10 mph. winds that crept up to
30 to 40 mph. after lunch, it was a nice day. It would get much nicer if I
could get my partner to land a lunker without having seven more lines
wrapped around his neck. Sometimes you know that gives those big ones just
enough leverage to pull right off the hook. Oh well she sure is pretty to
look at back there so I will just shut up.
Anyway Tom
Sprouse had an ugly partner to look at but he can sure catch fish. Tom and
partner Steve Gentry fished their favorite hole in Potts Creek to take first
place out of 51 teams with a total of 13.75 lbs. of hogs to bring home over
$1200 in cash and prizes. The two were tight lining double rigged Crappie
Snacks and Sliders right off the bottom to whip the crowd around them.
Taking second place after winning last
month on Wateree, the father and son team of Brian Davis and Brett Davis
tight lined Potts Creek with Crappie Snacks and Culprit Pantails to net
13.36 lbs. The two were catching bottom fish at first and raised the baits
as the sun rose to catch fish as shallow as 12 inches in the middle of the
creek. If it's a lie, then he told it. Anyway, they cashed in their
efforts for $515.00.
Rounding out the third spot was also
the third place team at Wateree last month. Dennis Morgan and Doug Dawley
loaded up with 13.26 lbs. also tight lining Potts creek with minnows off the
bottom to win $270.00 plus 2nd place big fish, a whopper that weighed 2.50
lbs. and worth $175.00
Taking big fish honors with a 2.62 lb.
toad worth $325.00 was Trudie Duke. I don't know how, what or why she did
it but thank you Lord!
