Lake Thurmond, SC/GA. -
Mar.
18, 2006
When the next to the last regular event was
through on Clark Hill Lake for our March 18 tournament, it was finally the
Trollers that dominated the day. How and where a team fished depended on
their preference except for the fact that the water had to have some color.
The Craps were scattered in the creek arms from the back to 30 ft. of water
out in the creeks. They were caught from depths of two feet under the
surface down to the bottom.
Coming out on top was the male/female team of
Ed and Trudie Duke from Concord, NC. The two were fishing the Fishing Creek
area on the Georgia side using AWD grubs rigged on Road Runner heads to haul
in 18.36 lbs. of crappie. It seemed the fish were staged up ready to make a
move to spawn. The team caught white and black hens along with white and
black bucks on the bottom.
Taking second place with another bridesmaid
finish, the SC team of Theodore Steen and Bill Castine were trolling fish as
deep as 25 ft in the upper arm of the Little River. Bill and Theo were using
AWD and Slider baits to capture 18.08 lbs. of monsters
Fishing in the same area was the SC team of
Ellis and Jon Cannon. Ellis and Jon were using Crappie Snacks and Culprit
Pan Tails to bring in 17.60 lbs. plus the 3rd place big fish at 2.57 lbs.
along with another 2.41 lbs.
This brings us to one more regular event to
decide the top team of the year for the Point’s Championship. The SC team of
Eddie Werts and Kenny Winn will have to have a really bad day to lose the
Championship as they have a 27 point lead over the second place team of Mike
Huffstettler and Ray Koon. Ray and Mike also have a 26 point lead on the
third place team of Ed and Trudie Duke from NC. From third to tenth will be
a coin toss to see who will round out the top five.
