“It’s been fun but I‘m glad we’re done”. This was the thoughts of all the dedicated members of the southern crappie association that fished in what seemed like miserable weather for almost every event of the season. The classic was a little better even though we had downpours on Friday and a front on Saturday that dropped the temperature to the low 50’s and 10 to 15 mph but still this was reasonably good weather and we had a super good time. As we continue to grow our paybacks just keep getting bigger and better. With 70 teams or 140 anglers, the competition was filled with the best in the south as everyone wanted to get one or more of the forty checks worth over $37,000 dollars, not to mention over four thousand dollars worth of merchandise that was won.   For the second time in as many years the dock shooting team of Randy Pope and Jerry Pruitt from Hickory and Vale, NC, pulled those hogs out from under those docks  for a two day weight of 23.20 lbs to take home $5700 for first.   Second place went to John Broadway and Todd Reavis from Salisbury and Mocksville, NC. Stumpy and Todd were slow trolling slider jigs in the upper part of Wateree to net 19.73 lbs of those big toads to cash in on $3700    Third place was the tight lining team of Tom Sprouse and Steve Gentry from Advance, NC and Winston Salem, NC. Tom and Steve were tight lining in Wateree creek in the middle of 50 teams to hoist in 19.19 lbs. The two were using Slider Jig Heads along with Slider Grubbs dragging the bottom. Along with $2000 for third other bonuses put them close to the top of earnings with a total payback of $4600 cash plus a Lund Jon-boat furnished by Carolina Boats in Salisbury, NC.
