SC March 12 results
Once again the
members of the Southern Crappie Association proved that if they had to they
can catch crappie in the worst conditions. For two days the wind howled at
up to 40 mph at times to make almost unbearable conditions. With enough
change in the direction from Friday to Saturday, this made everyone scrounge
around for more fish that were out of the wind as the conditions made it
impossible to fish where they felt confident in their spot. But the father
and son team of Marty and Sam Kennington from Kershaw, SC came out on top
with 15.27 lbs. of craps to take home over $1300 in awards. Sam and Marty
were tight lining minnows in Wateree Creek.
Also a tight
lining team taking second spot was the SC team of Mike Berry and Timmy Koon.
Mike said they managed to find a spot at the mouth of Taylor Creek and hung
there all day catching 13.55 lbs. of fish at 15 ft deep.
Taking third
place honors were the team of Mark Leatherman and Jim Wright of Vale and
Lincolnton, NC. Mark and Jim would not tell where they were fishing mainly
because I didn’t have time to ask them, but they were tight lining also to
catch 13.03 lbs. of specs.
Could the methods
of catching crappie be changing? For us die hard trollers it would seem
like we never stand a chance anymore as angler’s knowledge alone with the
weather are putting trolling on the back burner. We will continue this
discussion later.
