Fishing Creek/Stumpy
Pond Results
Like usual when southern crappie comes
to a lake, you can bet some foul weather follows, as was the case for our
February 12 event. It was cold and the wind blew real nice for everyone
involved for pre-fishing. On tournament day it was cold enough to freeze the
rod tips that morning but actually gave way to some almost 60-degree weather
and winds at just 5 to 10.
62 teams from
Georgia to Virginia tried their skills at some of those Catawba River hogs.
It was the South
Carolina team of Brian and Brett Davis that came out on top with a 10 fish
stringer that boasted 17.29 lbs. to collect $1300 of the $5000 prize money.
Brian said they were fishing up towards the No.9 bridge to hammer these
slabs, but as many people knew they were there and tried to catch them. No
one realized that the fish were on the banks in 6 ft of water. Brian and
Brett were tight lining minnows as were the other top two teams of Sam and
Marty Kennington from the Rock Hill area. Sam and Marty netted 16.47 lbs.
and as a bonus the big fish of the day to take home close to $900. Another
father and son team from Clarksville Va. flexed their muscles with 14.81
lbs. to take the third place money of $319.
Bobby Whitlow and
Little Bobby fished the mouth of Cane creek with the same technique as the
other top two.
It is nice to see
family’s fish together, as this isn’t the only time that families have
dominated events.
