At almost a last decision, 58
teams wanted to change the Southern Crappie Association to the “Southern
Catfish Association”. Everywhere you went the whiskers had taken over
Lake Wylie as we invaded the cats in the middle of their spawn. From the
shallows to the deepest water, anglers were catching as many as fifty a
day everywhere they fished. With that to cope with along with crystal
clear water it was a job to manage a 10 fish limit per day. But the dock
shooting team of Randy Pope and Jerry Pruitt were whispering to
themselves that those trollers and tight liners had finally scheduled a
tournament at the wrong time on the right lake. At no surprise, every
team knew with the conditions at hand, that they would be in for a
whooping. So Randy and Jerry come out on top with a total of 27.78 lbs.
for the two-day event to capture over $5500.00 of Bass Pro Shops money.
The trolling team of Todd
Commalander and Danny Free didn't do too bad as they collected $3500.00
in cash for a two day weight of 25.24 lbs. along with a 24-volt trolling
motor furnished by Marshall’s Marine worth $800.00 for catching the “Big
Fish of the Year” earlier in the season.
The Raleigh team of Freddie
Sinclair and Eddie Clifton came from down the field on Friday to bag
over 13pds on Saturday to make a two-day total of 22.38 lbs. Their
trolling efforts helped them to collect close to $2000.00
All together over $29,000.00 of
cash and awards was given out in the two-day event.
