With 63 teams competing for close to $5000 in cash and prizes it was the Concord team of David Swaringen and Lee Ford who came out on top with (9) fish that weighed 9 lbs. exactly. I don't know who counted them out but it was Lee who was fussing at David but it all worked out. They were tight lining Potts creek to haul in the catch. Word is that this is just the beginning of what they will show the crowd before this year is up. Topping out second was the team of Jerry Cline of Kannapolis and Scott Shue of China Grove. The 2002 classic winners were trolling Swearing creek to capture 8.46 lbs. plus the big fish of the day at 1.99 lbs. to give them the honors. Not all fish came from up the river as the SC team of Eddie Werts and Kenny Winn had 7.96 lbs. tight lining at Blacks Island to slash their way to third place.  Everyone was talking and really impressed with the way High Rock has made a comeback.  Most teams actually said they were tired of catching over 100 crappie and so many legal fish over the eight-inch range. It looks like old High Rock will be back to its robust self by 2005.
