Lake Hickory, NC 2004
For the first time, Southern Crappie held a
fall tournament on Lake Hickory and the results were close to what was
anticipated but the conditions made it worse. "No fish" unless you were
smart enough to learn how to shoot docks as the top five of six places were
doing that. The team of Jerry Pruitt and Randy Pope of the Hickory, NC area
showed the field of 28 teams how that was done with a stringer of 11.12
pounds. Southern Crappie members are catching up to various techniques and
shooting docks is one of them. The team of Dan Reid and Keith Sanders of
Gastonia came to the scales with 9.58 pounds to capture second place. Third
was the team of Mark Leatherman and Jimmy Wright with a weight of 9.19
pounds.
The only top team that wasn't shooting docks
was anchored down on a deep brush-pile all day. The fish were few and far
between but the rest of the field did manage to catch some fish and get some
all-important points to help get them to the bonus in the upcoming classic.
