Lake Greenwood, S.C.- January 5, 2008
The first event of 2008
proved to be testing for 39 teams on Lake Greenwood, S.C. on January 5.
Temperatures starting out at 15 degrees pre-fishing and 22 degrees on
tournament day tested some of the best equipment you can buy as everything
was frozen. Put that in effect with crappie going to the bottom of the lake
to avoid the cold and you will test some of the best anglers in the south
also.
Coming out on top to
capture top honors was the husband/wife team of Ed and Trudie form Concord,
N.C. The duo was long line trolling the middle of the lake in sight of the
dam. Ed said the fish were lying on the bottom at the edge of the river
where the water went from 40 ft to 55 ft. Stopping the trolling motor and
letting Charlie Brewer grubs fall to the bottom on the edge proved effective
as the two netted 14.20 lbs. to bring home over $1100 in prizes and cash.
Onlookers were quoted as saying that every time they looked Trudie was in
the back of the boat reeling in craps. They said all they ever seen Ed do
was net her fish. Go figure!
Taking second place was
the Saluda, S.C. team of Eddie Werts and Kenny Winn. These two were tight
lining minnows also down the river on the bottom of the lake. After hauling
in 13.70 lbs. of specs, they were reward with close to $500 for their
efforts.
Newcomer and former trophy
striper fisherman, the Concord, N.C. team of Gary Ashe and John Robinson
were slow trolling curly tail grubs 16 to 20 ft in 30 ft of water also down
the river. Taking third place and giving them two top three finishes in
three events also awarded them with close to $300 bucks as they landed close
to 13.50 lbs.
The Chapin
S.C. father and son team, Ellis and John Cannon were long line trolling also
to take $265 bucks for the big fish that topped out at 2.46 lbs.
