Lakes Tillery & Badin, N.C. - March 10, 2007
Four inches of
rain earlier in the week may have slowed down the bite in Badin Lake but not
on Lake Tillery. During pre-fish days, anglers were saying it would take 16
lbs. of craps to win. That was until all the water in Badin came rushing
down Friday evening and night. As the water rose almost a foot over night,
some of those big slabs decided to take a break from eating. Even still, it
took over 14 lbs. to win and almost every team was in the 10 lb. range. Very
impressive for lakes that people said had no fish.
Taking first and
adding to their list of Southern Crappie wins was the Leesville S.C. team of
Theodore Steen and Bill Castine. The duo was slow trolling AWD Crappie
Snacks and Culprit Paddle Tales to net 14.14 lbs. Theo and Bill were close
to the Cedar Creek area working the back of a cove.
Taking second
only 4 one hundredths back at 14.10 lbs was the Lancaster, S.C. team of
David Hinson and Josh Snipes. They were slow trolling deep crappie almost in
the river at the mouth of Cedar Creek. David and Josh were using a
combination of baits for their catch.
Only two tenths
from first was the Concord, N.C. husband and wife team of Ed and Trudie
Duke. The two were fishing the mouth of a cove as well as the river edge to
bring in 13.93 lbs. of toads. Brown AWD crappie snacks proved well for them.
Never failing to
have a good finish and capturing the 2007 Points Championship was the
Leslie, S.C. team of Dennis Morgan and Doug Dawley. The two edge out Marc
Danque of Chapin, S.C. by one point. Coming in third in points were the
consistent fishing team of Brian and Brett Davis.
