Greenwood, SC. -November 4, 2006

Well all I can say is those tight liners didn't win this time. As a matter of fact, those smart enough to troll didn't win either.  As it turned out, the top three places don't own but one pole each. And to top it all off, they were fishing in water so clear they could see the fish swimming 22ft deep. All they had to do was put a big old minnow right in front of them and they would suck it up. Then all that is left is to reel it in. It is just that simple to fish a brush pile. No not really, I tried it but never caught anything. I think it was because they couldn't make up their mind with 16 jigs ranging from an AWD, Charlie Brewer Slider, and Culprit Pan-tail. You name it, I tried it, but all they wanted was one minnow at a time.

That is what the winning team of Lewis Marshall and Leonard Frick did to haul in 11.50 lbs. to take first place honors.

Taking second was Todd Frick doing the same thing to bring 11.18 lbs. in.

Also the team of Sonny Bundrick and Kenny Eargle was doing the same thing to catch 10.38 lbs.

Now this is hard to believe, but knowing these guys and the way they protect each other’s method, I was told that in order to preserve their integrity as single pole jiggers, they all took turns fishing the same two brush piles. So with a flip of a coin they decided who could catch the most out of it. I wonder if Sonny and Kenny were the odd team out?
