Lake Wylie, SC/NC. -
April 8, 2006
The threat of severe thunder storms and winds in excess of 50 mph sent some
home on the last regular event of the season on Lake Wylie. But to those
that stayed found a little rain and a little wind in what turned out to be a
nice fishing day. But now I know what it feels like to start your day off
with the thought of a blown engine even before you get to your chosen spot.
It can ruin your plans for the entire day.
The first place team of Eddie Werts and Kenny Winn from Saluda, S.C. had a
great day as well a great year to bring in 16.63 lbs. of dollars to take
first place. The duo was trolling Charlie Brewer Sliders 10 feet deep in 20
feet of water in Crowder creek. This capped off the 2005 Sportsmen of the
Years' season to crown them the 2006 Points Champions of SCA.
Congratulations on such a great year for two great guys.
Coming in second for the tournament as well as second in the 2006 points
championship was the Chapin, SC team of Mike Huffstetler and Ray Koon. Ray
and Mike were also trolling Charlie Brewer Slider jigs in Crowder creek to
catch 16.32 lbs of craps.
Taking third in the event and also trolling Charlie Brewer Sliders in
Crowder creek was the Alexis, NC team of Mitchell Tallent and Sam Beam. The
two combined to bring in 14.96 lbs for the day.
Next up is the Southern Crappie Classic to be held on High Rock Lake May 5
and 6.
Qualifying letters will be sent on Monday, April 10th. If you
fail to get your letter, please contact Ed Duke at 704-784-1723.
As
a closing tip, one should always remember; no matter how busy you get, never
lose your train of thought especially when fueling. Remember… you cannot put
diesel in a gas motor.
