Greenwood 2004
It appears that the Wateree Mauler is up to
his usual self as he dominated a field of 55 teams. If you don’t know him by
that name, you will know him by the name of Nick Babin. Fishing alone
without his partner (his 7 year old son, Grant), Nick was tight-lining up
the Saluda River with 20 or so boats while 20 or more were up the Reedy
River and I suppose the rest of the 55 were somewhere else on Lake
Greenwood. Nick was using AWD baits tipped with minnows fishing brush in
deep water to boat 14.32 lbs. of craps.
Jerry Pruitt fishing without his partner Randy
Pope as most can guess was shooting docks all over Lake Greenwood to capture
second with 12.93 lbs. Jerry said he was having a ball all day and estimated
that he caught over 400 crappie or somewhat of a lot of fish.
Taking third was the male/female team of Ed
and Trudie Duke. Ed and Trudie were trolling down the river. They were
catching their fish about 15 feet deep in 20 to 25 feet of water using
crappie snacks.
I suppose you can’t put a finger on the best
method as three different techniques worked, but one thing for sure that
worked for Nick is that he painted his boat a different color. It gave him
an edge for a couple of hours before anyone recognized him.
